The tree diagram of food and water shortage
- Introduce the topic, explain the correlation between climate change and the problem of food and water shortage and food security.
- Divide the class into smaller groups and ask them to brainstorm.
- Each group carries out research into the existence of natural disasters: – Why do they occur? – What is the connections between these disasters and the lack of food and water? – Which areas are most affected?….
- To present the results each group have to draw a tree and insert: – roots: causes – trunk: main effects – canopy: possible solutions (Problem Tree diagram adapted with “solutions”)
- Each group shares and presents the results of its own research.
Evaluation
The evaluation process goes through all this activity; it is possible to evaluate how much the students have learned by taking into consideration:
- the tree diagrams produced by the groups
- the level of interest during the classroom discussion
- active participation during the presentation of the work
