The tree diagram of food and water shortage

  1. Introduce the topic, explain the correlation between climate change and the problem of food and water shortage and food security.
  2. Divide the class into smaller groups and ask them to brainstorm.
  3. Each group carries out research into the existence of natural disasters: – Why do they occur? – What is the connections between these disasters and the lack of food and water? – Which areas are most affected?….
  4. To present the results each group have to draw a tree and insert: – roots: causes – trunk: main effects – canopy: possible solutions (Problem Tree diagram adapted with “solutions”)
  5. Each group shares and presents the results of its own research.

Evaluation

The evaluation process goes through all this activity; it is possible to evaluate how much the students have learned by taking into consideration:

  1. the tree diagrams produced by the groups
  2. the level of interest during the classroom discussion
  3. active participation during the presentation of the work
